Many people have homes that have what are called half baths or three-quarter baths. These are bathrooms that are usually only equipped with a
toilet and a sink or just a toilet, a sink, and a stand-alone shower stall without a bathtub. In newer homes, these bathrooms are usually located
near a back door or next to a laundry room or in some other out-of-the-way location in the home. Many older homes especially in the Midwest and
in the South may only have 1-½ bathrooms to service a three or four bedroom home or they may have only one bathroom on the main floor and a

Because these bathrooms are usually pretty small in size they can be a challenge to remodel. Unless you have the option of tearing out a wall

smaller bathroom seem a little more luxurious is to replace the tub and shower combination with a deluxe double sized shower stall with multi-jet
showerheads. Another area where you can save or even create some extra floor space is to replace your current unwieldy sink and cupboard
combination with a more streamlined pedestal or corner sink.
Many smaller bathrooms are located in the interior of the home's floor plan, which means that there are no windows and therefore no natural
light in the room. This lack of light along with the small size of the room can make this area feel very claustrophobic. Pay special attention to
your lighting choices and choose fixtures that will add a natural light element to the room without overpowering it. If it fits into your budget
and if it is possible to do based on your home's floor plan, look into having a skylight installed. There are even skylights equipped with
screens that can be opened to allow fresh air in.
Another interesting space saving concept is to replace the traditional bathroom door with a decorative sliding door, narrow swinging doors, or
even a bifold door. A traditionally hung door may sometimes get in the way and not allow enough room to comfortably utilize the room to its
potential. Don't be afraid to go for something that may seem a little untraditional. You may be creating a new and exciting look for a room that
is usually overlooked.
Complete your small bathroom remodel with exciting and lighter or brighter wall colors or wall treatments that will open up the small space
even more. Use dramatic art pieces in strategic places to make the room even more interesting. A floor tile that blends into the walls will
create the illusion of an even bigger space. Be liberal in your use of mirrors, as they also will make the room appear bigger. Just because you
are dealing a small bathroom doesn't mean that there aren't a lot of options to employ when you consider remodeling it.
